World Refugee Day 2024
Every year on June 20 the international community observes World Refugee Day to honor the strength and perseverance of refugees everywhere, highlighting their hopes and dreams and their rights to a safe, better life.
Education is one of the fundamental human rights and significantly impacts children’s health, well-being, and prospects for the future. But for many refugees, access to education is one of their biggest challenges. For these children, this disruption to education is a setback to learning and gaining skills that will improve their lives.
At Everyday Refugees Foundation education is a pillar of our mission. Over the last four years, we have been sponsoring a school for Afghan refugee children on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, where four teachers work hard to inspire and teach now 226 young students. Among them, Saima, a 7-year-old Afghan refugee girl, Lobaba, a 6-year-old Afghan refugee girl and Nadia, an 8-year-old Afghan refugee girl along with another 134 girls and 90 boys, ranging in age from 4 to 13, eager to learn and work towards a brighter future.
To help the children reach their goals our team has been providing equipment, uniforms, school supplies, and an annual curriculum that includes math, English, and Urdu lessons. Our long-term project “Encourage” aims to continue offering refugee children the opportunity to gain an education in a safe and supportive environment and a chance to build a better future.
