Another year that we all have experienced and lived differently just passed us by. As we bid farewell to 2021, we are humbled to share with you that with your continuous help and support throughout the year we launched several projects in different countries. We also expanded our ongoing campaigns that helped and empowered thousands of people in need amid these challenging times that we are passing through.
In 2021 we helped and empowered thousands of refugees in Greece and Jordan. We educated hundreds of Afghan refugee girls in Pakistan. We documented dozens of stories of hope and resilience and through books we brought smiles to tens of Syrian refugee children in the Netherlands and more that we are proud to share with you below.
In January, in support of girls’ education and part of “Empowerment by Education”, we handed dozens of school kits to Afghan refugee girls in a makeshift school on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan. This is the second school we equipped since December 2020, part of our ongoing campaign “Education, a better future”.
In March, as part of our ongoing campaign “We are all in this together”, we handed hundreds of face masks, hygiene kits and other necessary items to Syrian refugee families in a tented settlement on the outskirts of Mafraq, Jordan. “Safe and healthy” was launched to help protect themselves and others around them through these challenging times we are all passing through.
Also in March we equipped “More than 100 girls” for the whole school year of 2021. Dozens more of Afghan refugee girls and internally displaced Pakistani children received school kits at a third school we supported on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital.
In June we expanded our ongoing campaign “Education, a better future”, by equipping a fourth school for Afghan refugee girls on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan. Education is a pillar of our mission and the key to ensure a better future for each child with many possibilities.
Also in June, on the occasion of World Refugee Day marked annually on June 20, Muhammed Muheisen, the founder of Everyday Refugees Foundation, took over the Instagram feed of National Geographic sharing images and the stories behind the scenes with over 198 million followers, showing the daily life and challenges refugees face while spreading awareness to millions of people in different parts of the world.
In July we delivered hundreds of face masks and dozens of outdoor trousers and shorts by our long-term partner KEEN Europe to unaccompanied refugee minors residing in a shelter in Athens, Greece, part of our ongoing campaign “We are all in this together”, which we launched in April 2020.
Also in July we launched project “Smiles”, in hopes to print a smile on every child’s face to enjoy a cooler summer followed by a warmer winter. We distributed thousands of high quality outfits by Pigeon Organics to young refugees living with their families in a camp north of the Greek capital.
In August we continued project “Smiles”, part of our ongoing campaign “We are all in this together”, and distributed thousands more of high quality outfits to young refugees residing with their families in a camp near the north-western Greek town of Ioannina.
In September we equipped “The 5th School” for Afghan refugee girls in support of girls’ education on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan. As well, we provided fans to help them escape the heat trapped inside their classroom during their daily classes.
In November Muhammed Muheisen, the founder of Everyday Refugees Foundation, launched a flash fine-art print sale for the second year in a row to support our projects and ongoing campaigns. From last year’s proceeds of Muhammed Muheisen’s flash fine-art print sale we launched “Education, a better future”. With this years’ fine-art print sale we aim to keep it going.
In December we continued our ongoing campaign “Education, a better future” by “Ensuring a better tomorrow” for dozens more of Afghan refugee girls by providing them with a school kit at a makeshift school on the outskirts of Islamabad, Pakistan. This is the sixth school we have supported since the launch of our ongoing campaign in December 2020.
Also in December we launched project “Kalimat from Home” by installing a library with a hundred children’s Arabic books from Kalimat Foundation at AZC Heerhugowaard, a reception center and shelter for refugees in the Netherlands.
We shared our mission and vision via international media outlets, organizations, lectures, interviews and exhibitions in 2021. Among others, France 24, UNICEF Germany, Global Citizen, Humans in the EU, Die Zeit, Hadara Magazine and others. As well in reports of Georgetown University, the documentary film Terror and Hope and regularly on the National Geographic Instagram feed.
Through photo exhibitions, by the founder of Everyday Refugees Foundation, Muhammed Muheisen, we shed light on the daily life and challenges refugees and internally displaced people face in different parts of the world. Among others, “Lest we Forget” in Noshiro, Japan, “Voices” in Sharjah, UAE, “Voices” in Coimbra, Portugal, and “Untold Stories” in Brescia, Italy.
Through our social media platforms, we told hundreds of untold stories, we raised the voice of thousands of unheard voices and we spread awareness to millions of people around the world. We documented, educated, helped and empowered.
We are very thankful to all of you for supporting our mission and vision!
