With the main emphasis to Inspire, Educate and Empower youth, giving them a voice to create a better and more sustainable future by introducing them to the power of creative visual storytelling and critical thinking, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Led by Muhammed Muheisen, Everyday Refugees Foundation partnered with Canon, in launching the Young People Programme in Jordan under the Patronage of H.E. Ms. Haifa Najjar, Jordan’s Minister of Culture on Tuesday 16 August 2022 in Amman; and with the collaboration of Princess Alia Foundation and Jordan Tourism Board.
30 students, 15 Jordanians and 15 refugees, all between the ages of 12 and 18 years with gender diversity were selected to take part in this programme, which included a two-day theoretical masterclass followed by field trips over three days.
Once the field practices were completed, the 30 students got the chance to apply their learnings on their own as they were provided with the required creative tools, along with loaned cameras.
More than 13,900 images were captured by the students and shared with Muhammed Muheisen, who then helped sort, edit, and come up with a 6-image body of work from each student aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
To celebrate their achievements, on Thursday 29 September 2022, a ceremony was organized to highlight the work of the 30 students.
H.R.H. Princess Alia bint Al Hussein and Muhammed Muheisen presented each student with a certificate of completion of the “Canon Young People Programme” and a printed portfolio of their work honoring their accomplished throughout the duration of this programme.
Among the attendees were H.R.H. Princess Alia bint Al Hussein, representatives from Canon Middle East, Everyday Refugees Foundation, the students, and their families. During the ceremony images taken by each student were showcased, focusing on how they capture the essence of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that they focused on, from Climate Action, Gender Equality to Sustainable Cities and Communities to Good Health and Wellbeing, and more.
