On World Refugee Day
Today is World Refugee Day, marked annually on June 20 to raise awareness of the plight of refugees globally.
On this day, and on any other day, let us all remember that behind the word ‘refugees’ there are people who were forced to leave their homes and hopes, their families and memories behind in search of a new, safe home.
Behind the word ‘refugees’ there are mothers and fathers, grandparents and grandchildren, doctors, teachers and students.
On this day, and on any other day, let us all remember that nobody leaves their home unless they are forced to leave their home.
“Encourage”
Our current project in Pakistan “Encourage”.
Since the beginning of 2022 Everyday Refugees Foundation has been fully sponsoring a school on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital, ensuring over 100 Afghan refugee girls and boys are receiving their right to education.
We equipped the school with all the necessary items and furniture. We hired four teachers, of which three are females. We also provided the schoolchildren with an annual curriculum and everything they need to have a proper education in the right environment.
“Educate”
As the students successfully completed their school year, we handed them a trophy during a graduation ceremony to “Encourage” them for the coming year.
“Empower”
Last week our team traveled to the outskirts of the Jordanian city of Mafraq to distribute hundreds of KEEN Europe sandals, shoes, t-shirts, shorts, exploration kits and other items to Syrian refugee children and women living in a tented settlement near the Syrian border.
We first stepped foot within this community seven years ago and have been regularly visiting and contributing to the empowerment of the families, women, men and children residing in this tented settlement.
Mohammad Hassan, a 7-year-old Syrian refugee whose family fled from Deir ez-Zor was among the children who received a pair of sandals and an exploration kit. “Thank you for this gift. I’m so happy with the kit. I can now use the bag for my school”, Mohammad said.
“The flashlight from the exploration kit will be very useful to walk between the tents in the dark,” added Umm Sami, a Syrian refugee mother of three from Al Hasakah.
This project is part of our ongoing campaign “A cooler summer” that we launched in 2018 in Greece to support those in need.
