A Cooler Summer Continues
With temperatures rising across the region, members of Everyday Refugees Foundation traveled to Jordan in June to distribute hundreds of sandals, shoes, t-shirts, shorts, exploration kits and other items from Keen Europe to Syrian refugees and local communities in the country.
In a collaboration with the Princess Alia Foundation, our partner in Jordan, on a sunny Friday June 10, our team headed to the outskirts of the Jordanian city of Mafraq to hand out hundreds of sandals, shoes and t-shirts to Syrian refugee children and women residing in a tented settlement near the Syrian border. We also handed out Keen exploration kits and shorts from Chrome Industries to the young ones. Keen’s exploration kit contained a backpack, binoculars, magnifying glass, compass, whistle, and flashlight that brought joy to the children.
We first stepped foot within this community seven years ago and have been regularly visiting and contributing to the empowerment of the families, women, men and children residing in this tented settlement.
The impact of these items extends beyond the practical use of the donations, as Ahmad, a Syrian refugee father said, “Of course these sandals will protect our kids’ feet, also, it brings them a great deal of joy”.
Mohammad Hassan, a 7-year-old Syrian refugee whose family fled from Deir ez-Zor was among the children who received a pair of sandals and an exploration kit. “Thank you for this gift. I’m so happy with the kit. I can now use the bag for my school”, Mohammad said.
“The flashlight from the exploration kit will be very useful to walk between the tents in the dark,” added Umm Sami, a Syrian refugee mother of three from Al Hasakah.
This project is part of our ongoing campaign “A cooler summer” that we launched in 2018 in Greece to support those in need.
